UEW to deal with students involved in examination malpractices

Winneba (C/R), Oct. 15, GNA - Student of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) caught to be involved in examination malpractices will be severely dealt with in accordance with the law Professor Jophus Anamuah-Mensah, Vice-Chancellor of the University warned on Saturday.

Professor Anamuah-Mensah gave the warning at the matriculation of 4,627 fresh students made up of 1,300 females, representing 28 per cent and 3,327 men, to purse various programme of study at the Bachelor of Education level at the University at Winneba.

Dr Cosmos Mereku, Dean of Students' Affairs presented the students to Mr Christopher Akwaa-Mensah, Registrar, to administer the matriculation oath to them.

Prof Anamuah-Mensah said "as teachers and prospective teachers you are expected to be role models and therefore live above the problem of examination malpractice".

"You should bear in mind that as a result of the type of profession you are pursuing, you will be facing stricter and more severe disciplinary action than what you may have experienced before". He told them that if they failed to study and intended to bring the hard won reputation of the University into disrepute, they would be dealt with severely in accordance with the law.

Prof Anamuah-Mensah urged the students to study hard because any freshman or woman who failed three or more courses at the end of the first semester would be completely withdrawn.

He said only 68 percent of the total qualified applicants of 7,462 were admitted due to limited infrastructure facilities.

According to him in the Winneba Campus, out of a total 4,533 qualified applicants, 3,121 made up of 2,112 representing 68 per cent men and 1,009 representing 32 per cent women had been admitted. In the College of Technology Education, Kumasi, out of a total of 2,386 qualified applicants, 1,073 made up of 841 (78 percent male and 232, representing 22 per cent female were admitted, he said.

The Vice-Chancellor said out of a total of 543 qualified applicants in the College of Agriculture Education at Ashanti-Mampong campus, 433 made up of 374 representing 86 per cent male and 59 representing 14 per cent female secured admission.

He said the University had adopted measures to ease the congestion faced by students and staff alike with the use of integrated radio lectures for its general course with over 500 students. 15 Oct. 06
