UE Regional House of chief encourages parents to send wards to Regentropfen College of Applied Sciences

The Upper East Regional House of Chiefs have called on Ghanaians particularly the inhabitants of the Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions to send their wards to the Regentropfen College of Applied Sciences based at the Namoo community in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region.

The Vice President of the House, Naba Baba Sallifu Leemyarum who made the call in an interview with the Ghanaian Times in the Bongo District on Monday said the College which got its accreditation in 2016 and had its maiden congregation on 3rd of November 2018 is very unique in its programmes.

According to the Vice President who is also the Paramount Chief of the Bongo Traditional area, one of the major challenges confronting tertiary students after the completion of their programmes has always been the graduate unemployment.

He said to help address the phenomenon, the Regentropfen College of Applied Sciences had put up very pragmatic measures in place at the College by establishing a Business and Development Centre (BCDC) with one of its units by name Enterprise promotion Unit which organizes weekly career development training programs for the students to enable them to be equipped with entrepreneurship skills and ideas whilst they are in school.

Mr. Isaac Azure is the Director of the Business and Career Development Center of Regenropfen College of Applied Sciences. According to him “the Students are equally given the opportunity to present their developed business proposals to the center for guidance and the needed assistance for implementation. Before the end of the semester, business proposals should be good enough for the students to start their businesses with part financial support from the institution. Many a student have embraced the idea very well and it is yielding results.

The Paramount Chief also mentions the studying of French and the Sign Language by the students of ReCAS as being timely, significant and unique of a tertiary institution in the country and noted that apart from the fact that Ghana was sharing borders with a lot of francophone countries, most of the public and private institutions like hospitals, banks, the court among others lacked sign language interpreters. It is thus a disadvantage to persons with hearing impairment when transacting business.

On the part of the management of the College, Sign language and French offer to the students of ReCAS don’t only help to address these challenges and communication gaps in the delivery of services, but rather learning them well would also help provide employment for the products since they would have an added language at their disposal after the completion of their programmes of study at ReCAS.

Rev. Fr. Dr. Moses Asaah Awinongya SVD, the President of the College highlighted another uniqueness of the College which is accredited to the National Accredited Board and affiliated to the University for Development Studies: it provides two admission windows, namely in August and January respectively. The College also provides scholarships to brilliant but brilliant students across the entire country without discrimination of any sort. “Currently 35% of the students studying at ReCAS are on scholarship of various kinds including work and study”, the president of the College added. In his view, the challenge in today’s educational system is the issue of finding job upon completion. It is the reason why “ReCAS does not only teach know-how but also adds do-how to its programmes.

Mr Isaac Azure, who also doubles as the Assistant Registrar in Charge of Business Development and Industrial Relations mentioned that the College had opened its admission for the for 2019 January/February , stated that it would also admit another batch in August/September 2019. He also indicated that all interested candidates could download forms on the college’s website; www.recas-ghana.com.

He mentioned that the College runs degree and diploma programmes in Business Administration, Accounting, Business Education, Computer Science and Agriculture for Social Change.

The founder and president of the College , Dr. Moses Asaah Awinongya, who is also a Roman Catholic Priest based in Germany , stressed that ReCAS have among its core values as Academic Excellence, Good Corporate Governance and Stewardship, Service to the community and Reciprocal Respect, Gender Equity, Social Inclusiveness and Teamwork, Benchmarking and Moral Uprightness

He said ReCAS which held its maiden congregation on November 3, 2018 had also established Regentropfen Education Foundation (REF) which had so far sponsored more than 240 students in tertiary and Senior High institutions across the country of whom some have completed as medical doctors , others also working in various sectors of the Ghanaian economy

He said the building of the College and the running of its programmes were made possible through the funding support from Germany and the individuals and indicated that the establishment of Reg-Aqua Water Plant is meant to support the scholarship scheme. “Any person who purchases a sachet of Reg-Aqua drinking water, supports a student directly”, he added.

He also indicated that the department of Agriculture for Social Change is working hard through its “Green Campus Environment Club” to grow 3,000 trees in the Bongo District within the next five years to help curb desertification. The project would be carried on by all the Regentropfen Schools in Namoo. This would instill environmental consciousness in the pupils and students
