Twins crushed to death

Two identical twin sisters were last Saturday killed in a gory accident along the Adenta-Oyarifa Road.

The twins, identified as Jane and Jennifer Keteku aged 9 years, were with their mother selling cooked corn by the road side, when a VW Golf 3 ran over them.

A third victim, identified as Michael Asante, according to the police, is still in an unconscious state at the Legon Hospital, where he was rushed for treatment.

Meanwhile, Suspect Etua Danso, driver of the VW Golf 3 car with registration number ER 104 U, who also sustained injuries together with another occupant in the vehicle, was treated and discharged at the 37 Military Hospital yesterday.

Suspect Etua Danso is now on detention at the Adentan Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) assisting in police investigations.

Confirming the accident to Daily Guide, ASP Owuahene Kaakyire Aseidu Akyeampong, the Adenta MTTU Commander, said the VW vehicle was from Aburi travelling towards Madina.

Upon reaching Oyarifa, opposite the Shell Filling Station, another vehicle crossed Etua’s vehicle making him step on the brakes suddenly to avoid collision.

In the process, the vehicle veered off the road onto the pedestrian walkway where the woman was selling the corn.

The children, who were then seated, were run over by the vehicle.

The third victim, Michael, who also stood some meters away, was also hit in the process.

The vehicle then somersaulted several times and landed in the bush.

Mother of the twins had gone to throw the husks of the corn away when the incident occurred.

The twins were rushed to the 37 Military Hospital together with the suspect and occupant but the girls died shortly on arrival at the facility.

Michael Asante, who was unconscious, was, however, rushed to the Legon hospital.

The accident vehicle has been towed to the Adentan MTTU for testing, while investigations continue.
