Twifo-Hemang-Lower-Denkyira assembly mobilizes GH¢186.00

Twifo Praso (C/R), Nov. 24, GNA - The Twifo-Hemang-Lower-Denkyira district assembly mobilized a total revenue of GH¢186.00 for the third quarter of the year 2008, representing 65 percent of the targeted revenue of GH¢284,601.60.

Mr Samuel Agyeibie-Kessie, District Chief Executive (DCE), announced this at the general meeting of the Assembly at Twifo Praso on Friday. HE said the year's revenue mobilization pattern, had shown "some signs of hope" and appealed to the assembly members to endeavour to play their respective roles to supplement the efforts of the assembly's revenue section.

The DCE disclosed that government has approved US$34 million for the re-location of the Twifo Praso district hospital while the district health directorate has also set up a CHPS zone at Jukwa- Krobo and also plans to operate two more zones before the end of the year. He said mass treatment of elephantiasis have also been carried out in the district through the distribution of free drugs, which has increased the coverage from 64 percent in 2007 to 75 percent this year. On the extension of electricity supply, he gave the assurance that it was the wish of the government to hook all targeted communities to the National Grid before the close of the year and that the assembly also hopes to continue the project to cover almost all communities in the next couple of years.

He said the assembly has in addition distributed street light to a number of communities in the district to provide some amount of security in the night.

Mr Agyeibie-Kessie said so far 1,415 pregnant women have been registered under the free ante-natal care policy, aimed at reducing maternal mortality to help achieve the millennium development goals. On education, Mr Agyeibie-Kessie was unhappy that the area placed eighth in this year's Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and that out of the 2,198 candidates presented, only 1,065 passed, representing 49 percent.

He commended Mr Emmanuel Agyeman, immediate past Presiding Member for his dedication to work and immense contribution to the district and congratulated Rev. Anthony Ababio-Danquah, the new Presiding Member. The DCE advised all aspiring parliamentary candidates in the area to endeavour to conduct their electioneering campaigns and political activities peacefully.
