Twifo-Heman-Lower-Denkyira gets beekeeping association

Twifo Praso (C/R), June 27, GNA - The re-constituted Executives of Twifo-Heman-Lower-Denkyira District Beekeepers Association was on Saturday inaugurated at Twifo Praso with a call on them to help in creating jobs for the youth.

The 300-member association has Mr Asante Addo as Chairman; Mr Richard K. Karikari, Secretary and Ms Gladys Mensah, Treasurer. Inaugurating the Association, Mr Samuel Agyeibi-Kesse, District Chief Executive (DCE), said beekeeping was part of the Government's poverty alleviation programmes to enable the country to achieve middle-income status by the year 2020.

He suggested to the Association to establish marketing and training centres for honey in the district and to register the group with the international beekeeping association so that it could get ready market for the produce.

Mr Agyeibi-Kesse asked the Association to involve the youth in beekeeping to provide them with jobs and appealed to people to support the project.

Mrs Emily Akotia, Rural Enterprise Development Officer of the Community-Based Rural Development Project, said the initiative when established would among other things support people involved in food processing, carving and rural eco-tourism. 27 June 05
