Twenty-seven JHS graduates benefit from Atanofo Education Fund

Twenty-seven Junior High School (JHS) graduates in the Tano South District have received GH¢170 each as assistance under the Atanofo Education Fund instituted by the Bechem Traditional Council.

Nana Fosu Gyeabour Akoto II, Omanhene of Bechem Traditional Area, who initiated the fund presenting cheques to the recipients at Bechem, said it was a vision worth fulfilling because of the plight of some parents whose brilliant but needy students secured admissions into SHS but could not afford the costs and had to solicit assistance from the Council.

He said the seed money for the fund was realised from last year’s celebration of the “Adekyem Festival” and appealed to individuals, institutions and organisations from the area to embrace the fund and continue to donate to a worthy cause.

Nana Akoto advised the beneficiaries to study hard for the confidence reposed in them and expressed appreciation to the Board of Directors of the Fund for their efforts to fulfil the aims and objectives for its establishment.

Mr Kofi Adu Mensah, Chief Executive Officer of Bayport Financial Services and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Fund, regretted that most of the brilliant but needy students in the area could not receive the necessary assistance.

He appealed to philanthropists, institutions and organisations operating within the area to assist with funds to cater for more students in future and make the scheme sustainable.

Mr Mensah cautioned the beneficiaries to study hard to justify their selection and warned that any beneficiary who would indulge in any immoral act at the expense of his or her education would be withdrawn.

Mr Zakaria Bukari Anaba, Tano South District Chief Executive, expressed appreciation to the council for establishing the fund to help improve education in the area.

He cautioned the youth in the area to refrain from any acts that would affect Election 2012 in the area since culprits would not be spared.

Dr Hannah Louisa Bissiw, Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing donated GH¢5,000 towards the fund while Mr. Andrew Adjei Yeboah, NPP Member of Parliament for the area donated GH¢2,000.
