Twenty-nine TB cases recorded in BAK District

Worakese (Ash), Aug. 13, GNA-The Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District recorded 29 cases of tuberculosis from January this year, Dr K.K. Hissein, the District Director of Health Services announced at Worakese on Tuesday.

He said last year, hospitals and health institutions in the district recorded 42 TB cases.

Speaking at a durbar of chiefs and people of Worakese in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District, Dr Hissein said the figure recorded this year indicated that there were still a lot more TB patients who were carrying the disease but were refusing to report for treatment. He said among every 100,000 people, 200 get the disease every year. He, however, warned that without proper treatment, about 100 people would die out of the 200.

The durbar was organised by the District Health Administration in collaboration with Global Fund an NGO,

Dr Hissein appealed to the public and family members to encourage their relatives and neighbours suffering from the disease to go for treatment at hospitals and clinics.

He announced that health personnel and chemical sellers from four districts - Atwima, Kwabre, Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma and jisu/Juaben - have been selected for training in line with the Metropolitan TB Control programme.
