Twelve teachers receive awards in Praso

Twifo-Praso (C/R), Dec. 23, GNA - Twelve teachers and non-teaching staff in the Twifo-Hemang Lower-Denkyira District were on Thursday presented with awards for their meritorious services. They received prizes including fridges, radio cassette players, gas cookers, television sets and certificates.

The programme also coincided with the inauguration of a 920 million cedi new office block for the district education directorate and the presentation of 25 Television set for selected schools to promote the PSI on distance learning.

Madam Agnes Mensah, of Twifo Catholic Primary, Mr William Nana Darko, Amondarko JSS and Mr David Castro Baidoo, of the Twifo Praso Secondary School, won the best teacher awards in the primary, JSS and SSS categories respectively.

Mr Raphael Osei of the Praso D/A JSS and Mr Fred Mensah, Praso D/A Primary, received awards for being the best teachers in Mathematics and Science, while Ms Mary Akumani of the Jukwa SSS, received the best non-teaching award.

Mr Regina Longdon, District director of Education commended the awards winners and gave the assurance that everything would be done to motivate teachers in the district to work harder.

She said in collaboration with NGOs such as the World Vision-Ghana, UNICEF and Action For Rural Education, extensive training courses were being organised for teachers and that efforts were also being made to flush out unqualified teachers using fake certificates. She commended UNICEF for providing three kindergartens in the district with bicycles for girls, sports equipment and furniture.
