Transport Ministry, others organize Safety Walk

The Ministry of Transport in collaboration with the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC), Cheki Ghana, an NGO, and its agencies has embarked on a safety walk to sensitise and educate drivers and the public on road safety within the environs in the Greater Accra Region.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Transport, the Executive Director of the NRSC, Mrs. May Obiri Yeboah, said the Commission had intensified its road safety campaign at the various lorry stations to sensitise and educate drivers on the dangers of driving without a license, and also to admonish them against careless driving as well as the need to ensure that their vehicles are road worthy.

According to her, the safety walk was being held across the regions to educate the public and drivers to ensure an accident free Christmas.

Country Director of Cheki Ghana, Mr Eric Amoako Twum, called on government to provide more public transports to ease traffic and effectively prevent road accidents.

Mr Amoako Twum said the education formed part of his organisation’s corporate social responsibility to educate various stakeholders on the need to prevent road accidents especially during the Christmas festivities.

“The exercise in itself is good but I think what will make an impact out there is that the general public, drivers and other stakeholders and pedestrians will understand and appreciate the message we are sending across," he stated.
