A seven-year-old boy, identified only as Kwame, has tragically drowned following heavy rainfall at Abrepo Bronikrom in the Bantama Submetro of the Kumasi Metropolis, Ashanti Region.

According to residents, the boy was among three children bathing in the rain when one of their slippers was swept away. In an attempt to retrieve it, Kwame was carried away by floodwaters in a nearby gutter.

The incident occurred on Saturday, September 27, 2025.

Eyewitnesses, who spoke to OTEC News reporter Kwame Agyenim Boateng, said they were visibly shaken by the tragedy and noted that all efforts to rescue the boy had proven unsuccessful.

“We are really scared because this is the first time something like this has happened in our community,” some residents said, expressing their shock and fear.

As of the time of filing this report, the boy’s body had still not been recovered, leaving residents anxious and distressed.
