Traditional healers to assist in immunization exercise

Asamankese (E/R), Nov. 3, GNA - Dr Anthony Normeshie, Executive Director of 'Health for all Herbal Clinic' at Oworam near Asamankese in the Eastern Region, has called on all traditional healers to educate their clients and relatives on the importance of immunizing their children against measles.

He said this would enhance the efforts of health workers in the current immunization exercise.

The exercise, which is aimed at immunizing all children between the ages of nine and five years against measles, is expected to end on Saturday, November 6.

Dr Normeshie, past President of the Ghana Federation of Traditional Medicine Practitioners Association, made the call at a press briefing at Oworam.

He noted that traditional healers have a major role to play in the exercise by educating their clients and relatives on the importance of immunizing their children against the six childhood killer diseases.

"It is very difficult and expensive to treat the six killer diseases, therefore the general public must learn a lesson from the saying that prevention is better than cure," he said.

The Executive Director advised parents especially mothers to participate in all the national immunization exercises.
