'Total Woman' campaigns against teenage pregnancy

A Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Total Woman, has embarked on a ‘Say No to Teenage Pregnancy’ campaign in the Volta Region.

Total Woman Ghana seeks to educate, empower and Inspire people especially women and also sharing the good news of Jesus to teenagers.

That is exactly what they happened at Attakrom Junior High School (JHS), Girls Education and Reading Club (AGERC) in the Jasikan District in the Volta Region.

Founder of the NGO, Miss Edna Quartey of TWG said, ‘’It was a privilege meeting this teenagers. I would like to say a big thank you to God, the TWG team and all who supported in cash and in kind.’’

He also appealed to people to donate to the organization to ensure they replicate the campaign in other districts.

Teenage pregnancy she said is on the increase and has contributed to a number of girls dropping out of school.

According to a Ghana Health Service report on Antenatal care registrants for 2016, the Upper East, and Volta regions recorded the highest teenage pregnancy cases.

According to the report released in March this year, 115 pregnancy cases were recorded among teenagers between the ages of 10-14, whilst 5,474 cases occurred among adolescents between 14-19 years.

This was an increase from 5,518 and 5,564 adolescent pregnancy cases recorded in 2014 and 2015 respectively.

The Volta Region recorded the second highest of 10,296 pregnancies representing 15.0%, whiles the Brong Ahafo and Eastern regions recorded 14% respectively.

Central, Upper West and Western Regions recorded 13% respectively, Northern and Ashanti regions had 11% respectively with Greater Accra region recording the lowest adolescent pregnancy rate of 6%. By: Lorna Quartey (Intern, Rainbow Radio)
