Akpokorpe V/R, Aug 30, GNA - Agotime Akpokorpe, a tomato farming community in the Adaklu Anyigbe District, is to benefit from European Union assistance with the construction of a modern market. The project, which is to be co-funded by the Adaklu Anyigbe District, is to add value to tomatoes and bring to a stop the storage problem in the community
Mr Kofi Dzamesi, the Volta Regional Minister, said this at the inauguration of the Agortime Akpokorpe Vegetable Growers and Marketing Association at Akpokorpe.
He said the project was one of many government interventions. Mr Dzamesi said many individuals were either ignorant or have little knowledge about government interventions at the district assemblies and urged the association to take advantage of funds available at the assembly to increase their acreage and earnings. Nene Ahlor Tetteh Bediaku II, Mankralo of Agortime Akpokorpe, said Akpokorpe remained the leader in tomato production in the country with its veritable land.
He appealed to the government to consider the establishment of a tomato factory in the area.
Mr Daniel Asomadi, the association's secretary, stated that within two years of existence, the association had developed markets across the country.
