The Member of Parliament for Tolon Constituency, Habib Iddrisu, has provided financial support to 229 brilliant but needy students in the Constituency.

A total of three hundred twenty thousand Cedis (GH¢320,000) was disbursed to the students from various tertiary institutions across the country.

The support was done through the Soyalana Educational and Endowment Fund, a fund established by the Tolon MP to enhance and promote education in the Tolon constituency.

The operations of the fund are in three categories: paying school fees of needy students, providing scholarships both locally and internationally, and investing in educational infrastructure.

Today's donation, according to Habib Iddrisu, is the fifth time since its inception in 2021, and it adds that over 2,000 brilliant but needy students have so far benefited from the fund.

Again, the Soyalana Educational Fund has provided scholarships to many people in the constituency. Ten beneficiaries of the fund are currently studying in various universities abroad.

A short but colourful ceremony held at the Tolon Community Centre on Monday, 8th September 2025, brought together parents, traditional leaders, and education stakeholders within the Tolon Constituency.

Addressing the gathering, Iddrisu said the initiative was part of his commitment to ensuring that no child in Tolon drops out of school because of financial challenges.

He stressed that education remained the most reliable tool for breaking the cycle of poverty and opening up opportunities for the youth.

“It is always painful to see brilliant young people leave school because their parents cannot afford their fees. That is why I am determined to sustain this initiative. I want to see every child in Tolon remain in school, excel in their studies, and grow to become responsible citizens who will also contribute to the development of this constituency,” he said.

The MP encouraged the beneficiaries to study hard and make good use of the opportunity.

He noted that the constituency had produced many professionals who were making an impact in Ghana and beyond, and expressed hope that the next generation would follow in those footsteps.

Since its inception in 2021, the SoyaLana Educational Fund has supported about 2,000 students across various levels of education.

The fund has become a major source of relief for parents in the area, many of whom struggle to pay school fees.

Community leaders and parents present at the ceremony praised the initiative, describing it as timely and life-changing.

They urged other stakeholders and philanthropists to emulate the MP’s example in supporting education.

The SoyaLana Educational Fund is expected to continue in the coming years, with Iddrisu assuring constituents of his unwavering commitment to education as a priority for the Tolon constituency.

A beneficiary of the fund, Alhassan Asana, thanked the Tolon MP for his benevolence.

According to her, the donation was very timely as she was nearly sacked from school.

"Allah will bless Hon Habib for what he has done for me. I am very happy today,” she said in tears.
