Tokokoe-Motte inaugurates kindergarten to climax festival

Tokokoe-Abudi, Sept 11, GNA - The Chiefs and People of Tokokoe-Motte in the Ho Municipal Area, on Saturday climaxed a yam Festival with a durbar, at which a three-unit kindergarten block with an office and lavatory was inaugurated.

Mr Gustav Asem, Officer of the Volta Regional Directorate of the Catholic Education Unit, said the Ghc 25,000 facility would help to promote education in the area. He promised to liaise with individuals, organizations and the

Catholic Church to provide the kindergarten with furniture and learning aids.

Mr Francis Kporvi, Circuit Supervisor of Schools, who represented the Ho Municipal Director of Education, asked the people to consider kindergarten as the foundation for formal education.

Mr Isaac Kodobisah, Ho Municipal Chief Executive, said the Assembly would support projects initiated by the people.

Mr Jimmy Klu, a Quantity Surveyor and Development Chief of the community, said that the kindergarten block, started in 2000 was funded through contributions by the people.

The Member of Parliament Ho-Central pledged 50 bags of cement towards the project.

Mr Klu was honoured by the chiefs and people for his contribution to the development of the area.

An appeal for funds for the building of a community public place of convenience yielded Ghc 2,620.75.

At a ground-breaking ceremony at Borkorvi-Kope, near Tsito, for a Canadian Federation of Teachers' funded kindergarten block recently, Mr John Nyoagbe, Deputy General Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers, said a study of the education sector indicated that 93early childhood sub-sector is an almost neglected component".

He said in some communities, kindergarten buildings were dilapidated used interchangeably with animals and children.
