Mr Sam Atukwei Quaye, the Ga West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has cautioned heavy truck drivers to stop using the Kojo Ashong Bridge over River Densu, to avoid disaster.

“I do not want what happened to the Ashalaja Bridge in the Ga South Municipality, where two persons lost their lives and rendered the residents stranded for two weeks, to occur in the area,” he warned

Mr Quaye gave the warning in an address to the people of Kojo Ashong and its environs when he toured communities in the Ga West Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.

The Ashalaja steel bridge on the river in the Ga South Municipality was destroyed by a tipper truck loaded with sand last year, but it has been reconstructed.

The MCE urged opinion leaders and the youth in the area to be law-abiding and stop collecting monies from tipper truck drivers to allow them to use the steel bridge.

He said anybody caught in the act would be prosecuted.

He asked the elders in the area to lead exemplary lifestyles for the youth to emulate.

Mr Quaye assured the people that very soon the roads in vicinities would be regravelled to make travelling very easy and comfortable.

He mentioned some of the communities that are to benefit from the project as Kwadjo Ashong, Otuapreh, Onyansana, Ademan and Oduman.

Nii Kojo Ashong I, the Chief of Kojo Ashong called for collaboration among assembly members and security personnel in the municipality, to ensure peace and development in the communities.
