Three to contest Kpone/Katamanso NPP primaries

Kpone, Feb. 18, GNA - Three members of the NPP in Kpone, at the weekend declared their intension to contest the Kpone/Katamanso constituency primaries to be held next month.

They are David Q. Annan who was the party's 1992 candidate, Mr George Noye who contested in 1996 and lost to the NDC opponent and Mr William N. Josiah.

Mr Joseph T. Quarshie, Co-ordinator of NPP affairs in the constituency, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency, said the three were yet to file their nominations.

He explained that the primaries to choose a parliamentary candidate would be held in March before the opening of the voters' registration exercise on March 16.

Mr Quarshie said factions of NPP had come together to ensure that the party wrestled the seat from the opposition NDC, which had occupied it since 1992.

He conceded that the problem that was created in 2001 when the constituency chairman was wrongly removed had not been completely resolved and said, "we will not allow this to divide our ranks during this crucial period when elections will take place."

Mr Quarshie appealed to the people in the constituency to make sure that they registered as voters, so that "we will be able to vote NDC out in Kpone/Katamanso."
