Three communities appeal for rehabilitation of road

Asabidie(ER), Sept. 05, GNA 96 Residents of three communities in the Birim North District have appealed to the assembly to rehabilitate the deplorable road linking them to the rest of the district. The communities are Asabidie, Kwaoboadi number one and Asata Kwartey.

Mr Simmons Gbadzine Akrong, outgoing assembly member for the area who made the appeal on behalf of the residents said the road constructed in the 60's had been neglected.

He said the poor nature of the road made it difficult for the farmers to convey their farm produce to marketing centres as drivers had refused to ply the road and those who risked charged exorbitant fares. "It is a pity to convey the sick on bicycles to Akyem Etwereso before boarding vehicles to the hospital", he said.

Mr Akrong said out of the 42 electoral areas in the district, the three communities ranked second in cocoa production. He said the road had affected academic performance because trained teachers refused to accept posting to the area.

Mr Akrong commended the government on measures to improve the living standards of cocoa farmers with the mass spraying exercise and housing scheme.
