Think of children's safety first before leaving for workplaces

Tema, Aug 9, GNA- The Tema Resident Queenmothers Association (TRQA) on Friday called on nursing mothers to ensure that their children, especially toddlers were entrusted to reliable people before they leave for their workplaces.

They said this would make them have peace of mind to put in their best to increase productivity.

Nana Akua Afo II, President of the Association on behalf of her colleagues, made the call when they presented soft drinks, biscuits, fruits, and bread to the Children's Ward of the Tema General Hospital, which they have adopted.

The Queenmothers were surprised at hearing from Ms Paullina Kyei, Senior Nursing Officer in charge of the ward, that 15 of the children, mostly toddlers were on admission with domestic burns and minor motor accidents as a result of crossing the street alone.

She said if the children were properly taken care of, they would not have landed in such painful situation.

Nana Afo urged mothers to enrol their children at Day Care centres if they have no one to leave the children with.

Ms Kyei said the surgical ward of the children's department continuously get congested and appealed to Corporate bodies in Tema to assist in expanding facilities at the ward.
