The Teshie Traditional Council in the Greater Accra Region has condemned the violent clashes that claimed the lives of three individuals during the sprinkling of kpokpoi to mark the 2025 Homowo celebrations in Teshie.

According to a report by Graphic Online, the Council made the remarks at a press conference on Wednesday, August 24, 2025.

“We hereby condemn in no uncertain terms the institutionalisation of guns, cutlasses, cudgels, stones, and other offensive weapons in Teshie Homowo culture and tradition in recent times. We also condemn the senseless killing of innocent citizens in cold blood during the kpokpoi sprinkling episode in Teshie,” the Council declared.

Homowo celebration turns bloody as two killed, several injured in violent clash

The Paramount Chief of Teshie, Gbetsorlor Nii Ashitey Akomfra III, further demanded that security agencies treat the matter as a high-profile homicide case to ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice without fear or favour.

Nii Gbetsorlor also refuted allegations that he orchestrated the attacks, describing such claims as “absurd and illogical.”

“I am sure that every right-thinking citizen will dismiss the accusation that, in my capacity as Teshie Paramount Chief, I had the shameless effrontery to mastermind an attack on my own subjects, stage-manage the shooting of my personal dish-carrier, and cause my loyalists to fire live bullets into my palace to endanger the lives of my special guests,” he said.

The Paramount Chief also offered an apology.

“I wish to render my unqualified apology to the Chiefs and people of Aflao-Teshie, Lome, our special invited guests, and the media for the traumatic experience caused by the mayhem,” he added.

Three people were confirmed dead and several others injured following the violent clashes during the sprinkling of kpokpoi to mark the 2025 Homowo celebrations in Teshie on August 26, 2025.
