Ten needy girls in Winneba appealed for help

Winneba (C/R), Jan 13, GNA - Ten needy girls' apprentices in Winneba have appealed to the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, Advocates and Trainers for Women Welfare and Advancement, Non-governmental Organisations (NGO's) and other philanthropists for support to enable them to complete their vocation.

The Apprentices between the ages of 18 and 26 years, are Gifty Impraim, Vida Yamoah, Hanna Danson, Hanna Mensah and Georgina Anaman. The rest were Mercy Dampson, Comfort Otu, Elizabeth Enning, Naomi Mensah and Felicia Imbrah.

They made the appealed through the district office of the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Winneba on Tuesday. Two of them claimed that they are orphans, while eight of them said their parents are fishermen and fishmongers whose businesses had collapsed. According to the girls they walked about two kilometers from their homes to their learning center sometimes without food for the whole day, adding that in most cases, it was their Madam who gave them chop money or food.

They said if no assistance is received, it would be very difficult for most of them to complete their vocation. They said any assistance, whether in cash or in kind, should be channeled through the Effutu Municipal Assembly or the Proprietress of Joygeo Hair and Beauty Training Centre where they are learning their vocation.

Miss Angela Joyce Cann, Proprietress of the Centre when contacted on phone by the GNA, confirmed the story of the girls. According to her the financial position of the parents of the girls who are mostly fishermen and fishmongers, is very bad, making it impossible for them to give support to the girls most of whom are in the second year of their three-year training. 13 Jan. 10
