Tema traders demonstrate against increase in property rates

Traders and shop owners of the Tema Central Market are demonstrating against the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) for what they describe as astronomical increases in property rates.

According to them, the previous rate of GHc 50 per shop owner has been increased to GHc 260.

They are, therefore, clad in red and have closed their shops to register their dissatisfaction.

Among the placards carried by the demonstrators read: "We will pay 30% MCE not 50%", "Property rate 202% increase Why, why?" and "Store rent increase too much".
