The Tema District Assemblies of God (AG) has organized a cooking competition for the Young Single Ladies (YS) in the various local churches to sensitize them on their respective domestic roles and responsibilities.

The cooking competition also formed part of activities to celebrate Madam Gladys Fosu Gyamena, out-going Organizer of YS, for her distinguished service to the District for 15 years.

Madam Gyamena, who is also a deaconess of the Tema Christian Centre Assemblies of God Church, handed over the Organizer office to Mrs. Rita Ayer of the Royal Priesthood Worship Centre.

The competition saw the various local churches exhibit their culinary skills as they prepared local and continental meals including; fried rice, plantain with garden eggs stew, “Aprapransa”, bean stew and fried plantain among others.

Speaking with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Madam Gyamena said YS was an auxiliary of the Women Ministry which aimed at training young ladies in the Assemblies of God to stay abreast of the word of God and enhance their God given talents and become responsible women in their fields of endeavours as they were the future mothers of the church.

She said women were endowed with enormous potentials and needed to be guarded on the right path to enhance their skills and gifts to positively impact society, adding that the training was not only spiritual but considered the physical aspects of women catering for the families and finding jobs to earn a living.

According to her, the cooking demonstration was a means of learning the preparation and serving of variety of foods as most marriages in Ghana were on the verge of collapsing as a result of women not being able to cater for their families especially with regards to domestic activities.

Madam Gyamena urged young ladies in the country to identify their God given talents in the service of the church since no one was a spectator in the house of God.

Madam Emefa Annobil, YS Organizer, Nungua District, said the cooking demonstration was to teach and empower young ladies in the Church to be agents of change in all aspect of their lives and face the future with confidence.

She said the aim of the YS initiative included; encouraging women to study the word of God, be educated, become professionals to fit into the job market and take innovative initiatives that would propel their development and the growth of the church.

She said although prayer was a necessity for survival as Christians, it was also necessary to be skillfully equipped so as to be assets to the generation and played vital roles in the upkeep of families.

“As leaders of the YS, we encouraging the young ladies to know the word of God, empower them to be educated, work hard and acquire wealth for themselves so that they do not end up depending on people especially families for their livelihood.” Madam Annobil stated.

She urged YS ladies to live their dreams, work hard, add value to themselves and study the word of God, adding that knowledge of the word of God and his teachings was a surest way to success.
