On December 6, 2024, a celebration filled the air at the Gumanayili Palace in Tamale as 150 teenage mothers from the Northern Region of Ghana graduated from the Skills for Future (Phase II) Project.
This initiative, led by the Girls Advocacy Network with the support of the KGL Foundation, provided these young women with six months of intensive training in hairdressing, makeup, beaded product making, and soap making.
The Chief of Gumanayili and his elders attended the event, praising the organizers for equipping the teenage mothers with practical skills and starter toolkits to begin their entrepreneurial journeys. The Chief emphasized that this initiative is a crucial step towards empowering these young women economically, enabling them to support themselves and their children.
Rafia, speaking on behalf of the graduates, expressed deep gratitude to the Girls Advocacy Network and KGL Foundation. She highlighted the transformative impact of the program, stating, "Thank you for giving us this opportunity to learn and make money from these livelihood ventures. We promise to use the toolkits responsibly and work hard to improve our lives." Rafia also emphasized the girls' commitment to avoiding unplanned pregnancies, demonstrating the program's broader impact on their lives.
The Skills for Future (Phase II) Project is a testament to the commitment to creating sustainable livelihoods for vulnerable groups, fostering economic independence, and building a brighter future for teenage mothers in Ghana. The Girls Advocacy Network and KGL Foundation have not only provided skills but have also ignited hope and resilience among the beneficiaries.
