Techiman to clamp down on illegal hotel operators

Techiman (B/A), Aug. 14, GNA - The Ghana Hotels Association will, in collaboration with tax agencies and the Ghana Tourist Board, embark on an exercise to track down illegal operators and tax defaulters in the industry in the Techiman Municipality.

Mr. Philip Kofi Ntiamoah, Brong-Ahafo Regional Chairman of the association, told the GNA in an interview that the exercise was meant to instil sanity in the hospitality industry.

He cautioned hotel proprietors in the region to obtain licences for their hotels since under law no hotel should operate without a licence.

Mr. Ntiamoah, who is the Director of Tano River Lodge in Techiman, said some hotels were not rendering quality services to customers because they flouted regulations governing hotel operations. He said some of these hotels did not honour their tax obligations and there was the need for proprietors of especially new hotels operating in the region to make amends before the exercise. Mr. Ntiamoah appealed to hotel proprietors to join the association and expressed concern that half of the hotels operating in Techiman had failed to join the association.
