Techiman farmers go to school

Forikrom (B/A) Nov. 22, GNA - A one-day workshop on records management for 36 farmers drawn from Techiman Municipality has ended at Forikrom. The workshop organised by Abrono Organic Farming Project and sponsored by Concern Universal was aimed at equipping the farmers with skills in records-keeping and management and to enable them to keep basic books of account.

Some of the topics treated at the workshop were; "Farm Business", "Farm Revenue", "Variable and Fixed Cost", "Gross Margin", "Budget" and "Break-Even Analysis".

Addressing the participants at the workshop, Nana Kwaw Adams, Executive Director of the Project and Twafohene of Forikrom, noted most farmers lacked adequate knowledge in the keeping of records on their farming activities. He said this prevented farmers from ascertaining whether they were making profit or not in their business activities.

The workshop therefore sought to provide the necessary knowledge for the farmers to operate their farms as business entities, he added. He said keeping of records would help farmers to know if they are making profit or not in their farming ventures and asked the participants to apply the knowledge acquired in the farmsteads. The executive director announced that 10 communities including Forikrom, Akrofrom, Fiaso, Ayeasu-Atrensu and Aworowa in the Techiman Municipality had been provided with Drip Irrigation facilities to support vegetable farming all year round.
