Teachers to help eligible voters to register

Koforidua, March 3, GNA- The Electoral Commission (EC), in collaboration with the USAID and KAB Counsult, an NGO has embarked on a programme to educate the public on the importance of the exercise.

Mr Eric Mensah-Bonsu, the Deputy Regional Director of the Commission announced this when he addressed one of such programmes at Koforidua on Monday for English teachers drawn from the 15 districts in the region.

Mr Mensah-Bonsu urged the participants to be ambassadors of the Commission by moving from place to place to educate the public for eligible ones to register while aliens and minors should be prevented from the exercise.

Some of the teachers, however, complained that they have received instructions from their District Directors of Education, barring them from taking part as registration officials.

Mr Mensah-Bonsu appealed to the Directors to permit their teachers to work for the Commission since the exercise is a national one and calls for the use of efficient, effective and reliable officials. 3 March 04
