Teachers provided with bungalows

Katapei (Ash), March 5, GNA- Eight bungalows built at the cost of 200 million cedis for teachers at Katapei in the Ahafo-Ano North district of Ashanti were on Thursday inaugurated.

The construction of the bungalows, which was started in 2000, was financed with funds from the Department for International Development (DFID) and the Education Sector Support Programme (ESSP).

Mrs Dora Doris Amaniampong, the Ahafo-Ano North District Director of Education inaugurated the bungalows, noted that accommodation for teachers was one of the major problems facing the district and praised the DFID for the timely intervention.

She therefore appealed to the teachers who were benefiting from the bungalows to reciprocate the gesture by working very hard to improve upon teaching and learning in the area.

Mrs Amaniampong asked the community and the teachers to team up to ensure regular maintenance of the buildings to ensure longer life span. She appealed to other Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), the district assembly and the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETfund) to provide more bungalows for teachers in the district.

Oheneba Kwame Kyeretwie, the Apagyahene of Kumasi, who chaired the function, appealed to the Otumfuo Education Fund and the District Assembly to construct a new classroom block for the Katapei Junior Secondary School to replace the old one.
