Teachers in full attendance at Ahanta West 54th Independence Day

Apowa (W/R), March 6, GNA 97 Teachers in the Ahanta West District of the Western Region, on Sunday, participated in the 54th Independence Day anniversary parade, held in the district, at Apowa. This was contrary to an earlier threat issued by some aggrieved teachers that they would boycott the event, after they were migrated onto the Single Spine Salary Structure.

The teachers matched briskly alongside their pupils at the parade grounds of St. Mary's Boys Senior High School. In a speech, the District Chief Executive for Ahanta West, Mr Joseph Jones Amoah charged the pupils to be discipline at all times to propel the nation forward.

He noted that the society is fraught with gross indiscipline, which could affect the Better Ghana Agenda and urged teachers to inculcate responsible and ethical behaviour in the children. "Discipline in our schools should include a focus on moral and ethic= al behaviour, so that our youth will grow up to be good citizens and not merel= y good students in school", he noted.

The District Chief Executive urged the pupils to internalize the value of hard work, adding that, handwork pays.

The Ahanta West District Director of Education, Mr Eric Amponsah said the heroes, who fought for independence should be recognized, saying, a nation that does not honour its heroes is not worth dying for. He thanked the teachers and pupils for honouring the event. In all, 700 pupils from 20 schools in the district participated in the Independence Day parade.
