Teachers in Sunyani study curricula partnership

Sunyani, Nov. 27, GNA - A two-day workshop on curricula partnerships for 60 teachers from 30 selected public and private basic schools in the Sunyani Municipality ended on Thursday.

They were taken through topics which included motives of partnerships, global education curricula and how to find the partner. The British Council in collaboration with the United Kingdom (UK) government's Department for International Development (DFID) Global School Partnerships (DGSP) organized the workshop. The workshop introduced participants, comprising a head teacher and a teacher from each school to the key features of the programme and equipped them with the knowledge of forming partnerships between their schools and those in the UK.

Ms. Bridget Konadu Gyamfi, Project Delivery Coordinator of the British Council and a resource person of the workshop told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that the programme, working in more than 100 countries was founded on the principles of education, equity and sustainability. It engaged the wider community in promoting partnerships which were educational, equity-based, inclusive and sustainable, she added. Ms. Gyamfi said the Programme aimed at promoting understanding among young learners (pupils and second cycle students) to enable learn about themselves and their responsibilities as global citizens in the context of diverse, complex and interdependent world through joint curricula work with a partner school.

According to her, the programme also provided teacher accreditation and professional development opportunities for teachers working on it. The Project Delivery Coordinator said currently the programme had 230 partnerships in Ghana but only two out of the number were in Brong Ahafo Region, hence, 30 schools in Sunyani alone had been introduced unto the programme as part of widening the participating agenda. The DGSP is a consortium initiative of the British Council, Cambridge Education Foundation, UK one World Linking Association (UKOWLA) and Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO), funded by the DFID.
