Teachers in Nkwanta anxious for free school uniforms

Kpassa (V/R), March 29, GNA - Teachers in the Nkwanta North District are

demanding the district's share of free school uniforms and exercise books=

for pupils

there. The teachers said parents and pupils in the district were anxious to receive those

items in good time. The concerns were raised at a get-together organized by the District Assembly for

teachers as part of the of the 53rd independence anniversary celebration at Kpassa. The teachers expressed their indignation at the manner the deprived area

allowance was being disbursed and wanted to know the criteria for selecti= ng

beneficiaries. They called on the Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service to

consider giving incentives to teachers who taught over-crowded classes. The teachers argued that teaching over-crowded class was becoming a

human right issue, more so when it is strenuous to handle. Mr. Paul Levin Gyato, Nkwanta North District Chief Executive, re-assured

them that no school or district would be marginalized in the government's=

policy to

distribute free uniforms and exercise books. He said the Education Directorate has taken delivery of some exercise

books and were expecting the next consignment of school uniforms that are=

being

produced locally. Mr. Gyato said teachers deserve more than what they received and

government was working hard to place teachers on a pedestal that would guarantee

their welfare and dignity. He said government was studying the policy document on deprived area

allowances and appealed to the teachers to exercise restraint. 29 March 10

NSOC 013 Social Police WASSA Effutu MCE warns police against demanding money before granting bails

Winneba (C//R), March 29, GNA - The Effutu Municipal Chief Executi= ve (MCE),

Nii Ephraim, has cautioned Police Personnel in the Municipality to desist=

from taking

money from suspects before granting them bail. He said reports reaching his office indicated that most police personnel, especially

those in the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), refused to grant ba= il to

suspects if they did not pay them monies demanded. Nii Ephraim made this known at the West Africa Security Service Association

(WASSA) get-together organised by the Winneba District Police Command at

Winneba on Sunday. The MCE said extorting money from suspects or their relatives before granting

them bail was against the law and also soiled the image of the Police Institution. He reminded the police personnel that the annual Aboakyer Festival= of the chiefs

and people of Effutu had been scheduled for May 01, 2010 and that they we= re

expected to give adequate security to ensure the peaceful celebration of the festival. The Winneba district Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Poli= ce (DSP) Mr Martin Asamoah, said the police personnel used the occasion to take st= ock of the

pervious year and share ideas on matters that could improve their performance. DSP Asamoah urged police personnel, especially those at the Motor Traffic and

Transport Unit (MTTU), to bring drivers who would go against driving regulations

during the Easter festivities to book. Among personalities at the programme were the Omanhene of Effutu Traditional

Area, Neenyi Ghartey V11, heads of Department and Assembly Members.
