Teachers asked to be responsible

Madam Alice Aniwe Nawuri, Nanumba North District Director of Education, on Tuesday, cautioned teachers to be mindful of their responsibilities, saying indisciplined teachers would be penalized.

“Many teachers in the district are not dedicated to their work; they often come to work late and end up not teaching at all, and this behavior has to be halted to promote quality teaching,” she said.

Madam Aniwe gave the warning when she interacted with journalists and briefed them on educational concerns of the area, at Bimbilla in the Nanumba North District.

The media visited the area to assess the contributions of non-governmental organizations, particularly, ActionAid Ghana and Songtaba, to the development of education in the district.

When members of the team visited the communities, they noted that some students travelled 10 miles from Karaga to Bimbilla to study, because their community lacked a Junior High School (JHS).

Madam Nawuri said new JHS would be established to solve the problem, and appealed to teachers to work hard to promote education in the area.

She also appealed to students, particularly the girls, to learn hard to enable them to acquire knowledge and skills needed for national development.
