Taxi drivers strike over 'killer' policies

Transport services are likely to be disrupted today as the Ghana Committed Taxi Drivers Association is embarking on a sit down strike.

They are protesting what they describe as high insurance premiums and the decision by the DVLA not to issue driving license to illiterates.

According to the group, the 400% increment in insurance premium is exorbitant and will throw drivers out of business.

Prince Amankwa, Vice President for the Ghana Committed Taxi Drivers Association, said the transport minister attempted to intervene but there was no conclusion after the late meeting.

“We were called by the transport minister but she called us late so we couldn’t sit down to negotiate any tangible settlement, so for that matter we decided to go ahead,” Amankwa told Starr News.
