Taxi driver knocks down a schoolgirl

Tema, Feb. 21, GNA- A taxi driver who knocked down a five- year-old school girl at Tema Manhean was fined three million cedis by the Tema Circuit Court "A".

George Darko who pleaded not guilty to careless driving and failing to report accident to police will to go jail for two years in default. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Edith Nutakor told the court presided over by Mr Stephen Teye that on November 17, 2003, at about 2 p.m. Darko was driving a Hyundai taxi from the fishing harbour to Tema Manhean. She said Darko who was driving at top speed, knocked down a five-year-old schoolgirl, Christie Djakpo.

The prosecution said the driver sped off, and people nearby took his car number, and was arrested two weeks after the accident.
