Take another look at distance education course modules 96 Onyinah

`Mampong (Ash), March 8, GNA - Mr Joseph Kingsley Onyinah, Ashanti Regional Director of Education, has called on the Ghana Education Service (GES) to take another look at the content of the course modules for teacher trainees under the distance education programme. He said there was the need to strengthen 93face-to-face lecture sessions" for distant teacher trainees to make the programme more effective and responsive to their needs and meet educational objectives of the country.

Mr Onyinah was speaking at a joint graduation ceremony for over 5,600 second Cohort of untrained teachers under the 93Untrained Teachers' Diploma in Basic Education (UTDBE) programme held at the Saint Monica's College of Education, Asante-Mampong. They had received training from the Atebubu College of Education, Mampong Technical College of Education and the Saint Monica's College of Education.

Mr Onyinah said the UTDBE was meant to help them to improve upon their classroom practice and the expectation was that after having gone through the training, academic performance of schools would go up.

He said efforts were being made to secure funds to train more teachers under the UTDBE programme.

Mrs Christina Sobotie, Principal of Saint Monica's College of Education, said training of untrained teachers would help to bridge the gap between schools in the urban and rural areas. She advised untrained teachers undertaking the distance education to ensure their pupils were not overly disadvantaged by missing classroom lessons. 08 March 11
