TMA trains Assembly Members on Local Governance

The Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA), as part of empowering its Assembly members, has organized a three-day training programme on local governance.

The Assembly members were made up of eight old members who retained their seat during the December district level elections, 13 new members and 10 government appointees.

Out of the total number of Assembly members of the TMA, five were women and 26 men.

The training which had resource persons from the Local Government Training Institute, equipped the new members with knowledge in local governance, its inception, evaluation, legal regime, decentralization, budgeting, fiscal policy, and standing orders, among others while it served as a refresher course for older members.

Mr Felix Mensah Nii Anang-La, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, opening the training, acknowledged the fact that the new Assembly was largely made up of first timers therefore the need to organize the training to prepare them adequately to deliver excellent service to the TMA and the people of Tema.

Alhaji Shehu Awudu Kadiri, Tema Metropolitan Coordinating Director, on his part, encouraged members to imbibe all the training they had received to help sharpen their lawmaking skills.

Alhaji Kadiri, reminded them that Tema remained a leader in Local Governance in Ghana therefore they should strive to maintain that standard.

In an opening remark, Dr Frederick Agyarko Oduro, Dean of Studies at the Local Government Training Institute, challenged the TMA to positioned Tema as one of the World first class cities such as London and Johannesburg.

The Assembly members were presented with certificates of participation.
