TEWU to resolve outstanding issues of SSSS migration

Kumasi, May 18, GNA - The leadership of the Teachers and Educational Workers' Union (TEWU) is working to resolve outstanding issues following teachers migration onto the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS), Deputy General Secretary of the Union, Mr Muhammadu Seidu Bogobiri, has assured. He said the leadership had already held a number of meetings with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) on the 15 per cent retention premium. He underlined their determination to make sure that the members enjoyed improved salaries. Mr Bogobiri, who was addressing the Ashanti Regional Quadrennial Delegates' Conference of the Union in Kumasi on Wednesday, said their conditions of service would be reviewed.

The three-day meeting is being attended by 270 delegates on the theme: "The Non-Teaching Staff, an Integral Partner in the Delivery of Quality Teaching and Learning." It would provide an opportunity to take stock of the union's activities within the past four years. The delegates would also deliberate on proposals on constitutional amendments, pass resolutions and elect new regional officers. Mr Bogobiri paid glowing tribute to the members for their commitment and forbearance in the face of challenges and urged them to continue to give the leadership the needed support as they fought for better deal.

The National Chairman, Mr Peter K. Lumor, asked the regional executives to inject more dynamism into the union. "You should also work assiduously and come out with meaningful programmes to make members conversant with current issues bothering on their welfare and development."

Mr Joseph Kingsley Onyinah, the Regional Director of Education, encouraged them to upgrade their skills and knowledge to enhance their performance. The Regional Chairman, Mr Seth Quansah Edudjan, said it was important to recognize the non-teaching staff as indispensable in the improvement of education.
