Swedru streets contract given

Agona Swedru, Sept 2, GNA - The government has voted 4.2 billion cedis for the rehabilitation of Swedru street to give it a facelift for Municipal status.

Mr Samuel Kweku Obodai, MP for Agona West, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Agona Swedru, said construction work on the three-kilometre street would begin this month. He said the contractor would move to the site immediately he was given mobilization funds to enable the Company to work. Mr Obodai who is also Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Transportation and Railways, said three communities at Swedru would benefit from the project.

They are Swedru/Mangoase, Mahodwe, Nsusososo and part of Yaabem. He noted that 200 million cedis HIPC fund had been set aside for the construction of a modern library complex for Swedru and tasked the chiefs to form a committee to ensure the early start of the project. The MP asked parents to encourage their children who had completed second and tertiary institutions to take advantage of the opportunity offered them by the government.

Mr Obodai urged the people to put aside politics and to focus on the development of the area. He called on the members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to bury their differences to ensure sound victory in the 2008 general elections 02 Sept 06
