Suspected murderer arrested

Agotime-Kpetoe (V/R), Oct. 14, GNA - Kweku Tengey alias "Burger", 32, a farmer and native of Sarakope, near Agotime-Kpetoe in the Ho District, who allegedly strangled a Fulani herdsman to death and robbed him of 2.5 million cedis was last Friday, arrested by a combined team of Policemen and the Wumenu community, a village on the Ho-Aflao trunk road.

Tengey, who lives at Wumenu, fled an identification parade called by Togbe Sekpe III, to enable Mama Bande, a survivor of the robbery to identify the culprits, but was chased and flushed out of the bush. Mr Kwame Anane, Deputy Superintendent of Police in Charge of the Kpetoe District told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Tuesday that Mr Issifu Sambo, 37, the deceased returned to Wumenu from Ho to continue to his Kraal, which is about three kilometres away.

He said half way through the journey, Mr Sambo, in the company of Mama Bande, 17, at about 2030 hours, saw silhouettes from afar running after them.

Mr Anane said the two Fulani herdsmen took to their heels but three people who were chasing them caught up first with Bande, assaulted and searched him for money, which they did not find.

He said they attacked Sambo and strangled him to death and took the money, which were proceeds from a cow he had sold.

Mr Anane said while returning with the booty, Bande saw the robbers who were armed with a gun and reported the robbery to the chief of Wumenu who caused a gong-gong to be beaten restraining every member of the community from going anywhere.

Bande and some Fulani leaders reported the matter to the Police at Kpetoe, Mr Anane said.

Mr Anane said before the Police arrived at Wumenu, the youth had cordoned off the village for a roll call during which Tengey who had been sighted earlier was found missing.

He said while the Police and the youth were combing the village, they saw Tengey fleeing into the bush but was chased and arrested after more than an hour's pursuit.

Mr Anane said Yaw Efoo, who Tengey mentioned as an accomplice is on the run.

Meanwhile, the body of Sambo had been deposited at the Ho Regional Hospital for autopsy.
