Suprodo Fire Volunteers receive awards

Mankessim (C/R), Dec. 9, GNA - Mr Kru Agyarko Attobrah, Assistant Chief Fire Officer in charge of the Central Region has presented awards to members of the Ekumfi Suprodo Fire Volunteers Squad for their dedication to duty. The members were presented with Wellington boots, cutlasses and T-Shirts donated by the Rural Fire Department of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

The citation accompanying the awards, which was read by the Regional Fire Officer said: "The Suprodo Fire Volunteer Squad, which comprises men and women from Ekumfi Suprodo and Obidan was formed on November 5, 2004 and inaugurated on February 11, 2005.

The squad has lived up to expectation by constantly playing a subsidiary role to that of the GNFS in the area and has contributed immensely to minimize bush fires in the District."

The citation said members of the squad had combined effectively their farming activities with bush fire prevention and had regularly organized sanitation exercise to keep the environment healthy and also serves as a neighbourhood watch group to protect life and property. "For this and other reasons the squad is rated high above its counterparts in the Region and deserve to be honoured", the citation added.

Mr Samuel Adabo, Mfantseman District Fire Officer urged the squad to intensify vigilance, "since we have entered the dry season" and continue to educate the people on the harmful effect of bush fires. 9 Dec. 05
