Support efforts at enhancing the justice delivery system

Kodie (Ash), May 12, GNA - An appeal has been made to all Ghanaians to support efforts at enhancing the administration of justice in the country. Mr Bright Akoande, a District Magistrate in Afigya-Kwabre, said this was necessary to safeguard Ghana's democracy and protect the rights and freedoms of the people. He was speaking at a forum held by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) to mark the 11th annual constitution week celebration at Kodie. It was held under the theme: 93The state of Ghana's democracy, 2011" and focused on the justice system, corruption, political parties and the media. The event brought together chiefs and religious leaders, heads of department, assembly and unit committee members and civil society groups. Mr Akoande expressed worry about the harsh criticism of the judiciary by sections of the population, describing most of these as misplaced and frivolous 96 resulting from the lack of understanding of how the justice system worked. He said being a human institution nobody should pretend that the judiciary was infallible but the hard fact was that many of the judges were people of integrity. 12 May 11
