Sunyani MCE presents free school uniforms to two schools

Yawsae (B/A) Dec. 4, GNA - Mr Kwasi Oppong Ababio, Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive, on Friday presented 299 school uniforms for distribution to pupils in public basic schools at Yawsae and Daadom in the Sunyani Municipality. The items were received by head teachers of the two schools at a ceremony that coincided with the celebration of the 26th National Farmers Day at Yawsae, during which deserving farmers in the municipality were also honoured.

Mr Oppong Ababio explained that the presentation to the two schools as well as others made to some schools in the municipality was in fulfilment of a promise the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party made during the 2008 electioneering campaign.

He said the government, under the leadership of President John Atta Mills, was creating the "enabling environment" to allow every child of school-going age to attend school. "The free supply of exercise books, construction of classroom blocks to remove the unfortunate situation of children studying under trees and many more interventions are enough practical signs to tell Ghanaians that the NDC Government is on course," Mr Ababio said. Pupils of the two schools, Municipal Assembly (M/A) Primary and JHS at Yawsae and Daadom respectively, even though Friday was a statutory public holiday, happily lined up at the durbar grounds to collect the free uniforms.

Later in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr Seth Asare, Head-teacher of Yawsae on behalf of his counterparts, expressed gratitude to the government for the gesture and pledged the commitment of teachers to contribute their quota to ensure improved academic performance. 4 Dec. 10
