Sunyani District Assembly Exeeds Revenue Target

More than one thousand brilliant but needy students in second cycle institutions in the Sunyani District will benefit from the education sponsorship package of the Sunyani District Assembly this year.

The District Chief Executive, Mr.Ignatius Baffour Awuah, disclosed this in a radio interview with Space fm in Sunyani on Wednesday.

Outlining the District Assembly’s programme of action for the District, the Chief Executive said education remains their topmost priority.

For this reason, over 40 % of the the Assembly’s budget for this year has been allocated to education to enhance the infrastructural base as well as providing incentive packages to teachers. He said in order to generate interest in science education especially for the girl-child, more resource centres will be constructed to enable students have access to science resource centres.

The Chief Executive also hinted that even though the assembly’s revenue target for the year 2003 was 1.7 million cedis, they have already bagged around 2billion cedis. Mr. Baffour Awuah, however, thinks that there is still room for improvement.
