Sub-Metro office closes toilet at Arena Lorry Park

Accra, Feb. 16, GNA - Mr Charles Bedzra, Welfare Secretary and Spokesperson of drivers at Arena Lorry Park in Accra, has condemned the alleged closure of the only toilet facility at the park by the Ashiedu Keteke Sub-Metro.

He described the action as a potential health threat to the public a= nd called on the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to intervene to get the facility opened. Mr Bedzra who made this known to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Mond= ay, claimed that the Sub-Metro Chairman identified as Mr Adjebu Lamptey order= ed the closure of the toilet.

He said all efforts to get official reasons for the closure had prov= ed futile, explaining that it could undermine the good relationship between the local branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union and AMA. Mr Dennis Kodjo Ahiable, Managing Director of the Metro Target Servi= ces Limited, told the GNA that on October 2009, his company entered into an agreement with AMA to manage the toilet facility and the lorry park. He therefore expressed shock about the closure of the facility, sayi= ng it was a breach of contract.

Mr Michael Gyimah, AMA Sub-Metro Director confirmed the closure of t= he toilet to the GNA and gave the assurance that he would ensure that the impasse is resolved. Mr William Opoku Adjei, Sub-Metro Environmental Health Officer expressed surprised that the toilet was closed without his attention.
