Students receive assistance from Archbishop Andoh Education Endowment Fund

Accra, Sept. 22, GNA - One hundred and six students in basic, senior high, polytechnics and universities on Thursday received bursary worth GH¢50,000 from the Archbishop Andoh Education Endowment Fund. The Fund was established 10 years ago to provide assistance to needy but brilliant students in the various catholic parishes to overcome the temptation of individualism and discover their potentials in specific vocation. The 10th edition of awards of bursaries and fund-raising held in Accra on the theme: 93Help Educate a Needy Student," enabled friends and benefactors to contribute immensely to support and sustain the Fund. Most Reverend Charles G. Palmer-Buckle, Accra Metropolitan Archbishop said, every child was a potential doctor, engineer, president, soldier, teacher, member of the clergy, an adult, therefore parents and guardians must nurture whatever seed God had placed in the child to grow and produce needed fruit for humanity. He said whenever financial assistance was offered to a needy student i= t should not be forgotten that in future someone great in society might emerg= e out of these children to endow humanity with discovery, adding that the essence of education was to enable a child blossom into a great personality= .. Most Rev. Palmer-Buckle charged beneficiaries to study hard to excel and justify the investment the church had made in them. He encouraged them to be obedient to parents, teachers, rules and regulation of their various institutions and to continually pray for the benefactors to care for them until the end of their studies. Mr Maxwell Mac Ocloo, a retired educationist said educating a needy student was a good cause to reduce crime, unemployment and to develop human resource in the country. He cautioned the beneficiaries not to turn their back on the church an= d parents since it was a good thing to establish the Fund. He called on the students to be serious and vigilant when and where ever they might find themselves and always ask God for direction and guidance in their academic and Christian affairs. Very Reverend Father Francis Adoboli, Chairman of Board of Trustees explained that the offer of financial assistance to needy and promising students began about a decade ago and contributions were received form 62 individuals, 40 parishes and other congregations in Accra Archdiocese. He noted that through the sacrifices of these individuals, the Fund wa= s able to provide financial assistance to 83 students worth GH¢40,000 last year. Rev. Fr. Adoboli said the Fund was to teach the virtue of self-giving and sacrifice therefore, as Christians there should be a driving force to commit and serve God and contribute towards making the world a much better place for others to live in. "Though you are students, you should not forget that you are part of that salvation history which Jesus Christ, the Saviour is the final goal,= " he added. Mr Justice Sir Dennis D. Adjei, an Appeal Court Judge, said it was mandatory for every Ghanaian child to obtain Free Compulsory Universal Basi= c Education (FCUBE) as stipulated in the constitution therefore there should be a provision to assist needy students to realise their full potentials.
