Stop the illegal construction of speed ramps

The Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) has expressed concern about the increasing rate of illegal speed ramps and warned, offenders could be punished.

A press release signed by Mr Henry K. Nkansah, Regional Safety and Environment Officer for Ashanti and Brong-Ahafo, in Kumasi, stated that it is a punishable offence for anybody to tamper with any trunk road and its related facilities without the GHA’s written permission.

Under the law, it is only the Minister of Roads and Highways who could cause to be erected structures on, near, over or under trunk roads, it added.

The statement said the Authority sympathizes with all those who have lost their relatives through knockdowns, resulting from reckless driving and gave the assurance that it will not refuse to grant any appropriate request for construction of speed ramps when due approval is granted.**
