Stop selling on the streets – ARCC warns traders

The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) has given an 11-day ultimatum to traders and hawkers at unauthorized areas around the Kumasi Kejetia Central Market redevelopment project and the Central Business District (CBD) of Kumasi to vacate.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, 30 January 2019, Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, said the traders have a stipulated time to relocate to the various satellite markets in the metropolis else they will be evicted forcefully.

He said the evacuation exercise is part of the ARCC roadmap towards the official opening of roads on the Kumasi Kejetia and Central Market redevelopment project to traffic.

He said no trader or hawker will be allowed to sell on pavements and streets or any space around the project while urging them to move to about 34 satellite markets provided for traders.

He indicated that the opening of roads related to the project is not an official opening of a market for trading in the area.
