Stop land sales to multinational firms - Kwesi Pratt Jr.

Mr. Pratt Jr. Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper has called for effective land reforms that will return ownership of lands in Ghana to genuine producers, peasant farmers so that humanity can survive.

He condemned the practice in which vast tracks of land are sold to multinational corporations at the expense of local and peasant farmers.

Mr. Kwesi Pratt Jr. was speaking on the theme: “the role of social change communication in national development” at a maiden lecture on Monday, March 16th organised by Communication Students of Ghana (COMSAG) at the University for Development Studies – Nyankpala, Tamale.

Mr. Kwesi Pratt Jr. also said, “The discrimination against some members of the society including women, visually impaired and physically challenged persons, especially when it comes to traditional leadership ought to change now.”

He admonished the students to learn very hard, saying it is only through learning and understanding of society that one can make an impact and change society for good.

Students, lecturers and non-academic staff of the University for Development Studies at the lecture gave a prolonged ovation to the message from Mr. Kwesi Pratt Jr.

The event also witnessed the launching of the campus newspaper which is aimed at being the mouth-piece of the student body.

Professor Amin Alhassan, Dean of the Faculty of Agri Business and Communication Sciences called on the students to broaden their knowledge by learning wide and also to follow the footprints of seasoned journalists as Mr. Kwesi Pratt Jr.

The lecture was chaired by Professor Amin Alhassan and attended by various leaders including Dr. Obeng, Vice Dean of Agri Business and Communication Sciences; Dr. Mashoud Mohammed, Head of Department for Communication, Innovation and Technology; Mr. Mohammed Sadick, Patron of COMSAG; Madam Fadila, a Lecturer; Mr. Rashad, Secretary to the Paramount Chief of Tamale – Gulpkegu Naa Alhassan.
