Stop conniving with employees- SSNIT Manager tells employers

Obuasi (Ash), Aug 12, GNA- Mr Yaw Oko Bensa-Agyekum, Area Manager of Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) for Ashanti has asked employees to stop conniving with their employers on non-payment of their contributions to the Trust.

He regretted that, some employees assist their employers to under declare their salaries to dodge the payment of workers' contributions to SSNIT.

" Present, we have on our records some employees who claim they take 30,000 cedis as their monthly salaries" and queried how this could be possible.

Mr Bensa-Agyekum said this attitude on the part of both employees and employers did not augur well for the employees at a seminar for SSNIT employees at Obuasi on Wednesday. His topic was: "The Employers". He said SSNIT relies on employers to be agents of the Trust and register all their employees.

Mr Bensa-Agyekum said SSNIT was ever ready to deliver its promises and that it paid a total of 162 billion cedis to 14,199 new pensioners last year.

Mr Abdulai Issah, Obuasi Branch Manager of SSNIT alleged that some employers submit returns based on false salaries of their workers and submit same, to the SSNIT.

"This is against the law", he pointed out and announced that some establishments were in arrears of employees' contributions. Mr Issah advised contributors to maintain only one identity card number to facilitate easy processing of benefits, pointing out that the Trust relied on data in the payment of benefits. 12 Aug. 04
