The Saint Joseph R/C Primary Special School in Ghana’s foremost mining town, Obuasi,?has secured a new classroom block under the “Shelter 4 Education” project.

As a beneficiary of the project being undertaken by telecommunication company, Tigo Ghana, the school’s dilapidated classroom block was replaced with a new modern block.

The fully furnished four classroom block has an office for the Headmistress, a pantry and toilet facilities for the children.

At a handing over ceremony, Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, the Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive was delighted at the result of the company’s project for the school, and commended the company for the assistance.

“Tigo’s Shelter 4 Education project has come to enhance the quality of teaching and learning in this municipality and I am grateful for the support,” he said.

According to him, enrolment level in the school has been declining for the past three years due to the run-down structure.

“It is the only special school in this municipality, and yet we were unable to offer any support or comfort to the children” he noted.

The headmistress of the school, Mrs Christiana Adei, thanked Tigo for the edifice and promised to take good care of it.

Gifty Bingley, head of Corporate Communications and CSR Department at Tigo Ghana, in her remarks reiterated Tigo’s commitment to supporting deprived communities, across the country.
